Biscuits rally falls short in 4-3 loss to Generals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (biscuitsbaseball.com) – A late two-out rally in the bottom of the ninth came up just short as the Biscuits fell to the Jackson Generals for a second-straight game by a score of 4-3 on Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Chih-Wei Hu (3-8) was on the mound for the Butter and Blue and the right-hander delivered a solid performance tossing four shutout innings to begin the game. Hu, whose run support averages 3.5, got a couple of early runs thanks to an RBI-single by Kean Wong that opened up the scoring in the third, and an RBI-double by Patrick Leonard in the fourth to make it 2-0 Biscuits.

Hu would run into trouble in the fifth, however, as the Generals recorded four-straight two-out hits to take a 3-2 lead courtesy of RBIs from Benji Gonzalez, Brock Hebert, and Tyler O’Neill. An inning later, Steve Baron would launch his third home run of the season for Jackson, again with two outs, to make it 4-2 Generals.

The next batter was Kyle Petty, and Hu threw a pitch over his head. Home plate umpire and crew chief David Arrieta, who had already issued a warning to both dugouts when Hu pegged Tyler O’Neill with a pitch in the first inning, immediately ejected Hu, which incensed Biscuits manager Brady Williams, who believed the throw over-the-head pitch was unintentional. Williams was eventually ejected as well, and proceeded to throw the ball bag and a number of bats out onto the field before heading to the clubhouse.

Patrick Leonard would hit another RBI-double in the sixth, but the Biscuits would not score again, as Cade Gotta grounded into the game-ending 5-4 fielder’s choice in the bottom of the ninth with runners at first and second. The Biscuits have been leapfrogged by the Generals in the standings, and trail Jackson, now in first, by a half-game with game three of the series taking place Tuesday night at 7:05 with Brent Honeywell (1-0) taking on Andrew Moore (6-1).
