Tuskegee’s Morgan, McCutcheon earn preseason All-American honors

NEW ORLEANS (goldentigersports.com) –  With football season just a month away, preseason polls and All-American honors are starting to be released, and a pair of Tuskegee University Golden Tigers earned honors this week from FootballGameplan.com.

Football Gameplan, established in 2007, has selected preseason All-American teams at all levels of NCAA and NAIA football since 2013.

Junior defensive back Jonah McCutcheon earned his second preseason All-American honor this week with the First Team selection, his second as he was named to The Sporting News preseason All-American team earlier this summer. The junior has also earned a First Team selection on the preseason All-SIAC team this summer.

Last season, McCutcheon earned All-Conference and All-Region honors to go with his two All-American selections. The junior started all 13 games last season and led the team with seven interceptions. He also recorded 40 tackles which included 21 solo stops and recorded 2.5 tackles for loss. McCutcheon recorded five pass breakups and a fumble recovery en route to leading the Golden Tigers to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II playoffs.

Preseason SIAC Defensive Player of the Year, senior defensive end Julian Morgan, also earned a selection to the preseason team. The senior was selected as Third Team preseason All-American.

Last season, Morgan played in just 10 games after he missed three due to an injury and earned Second Team All-SIAC honors. He finished fifth on the team in tackles with 56, including 32 solo stops. He also recorded 15.5 tackles for loss, and for the second year in a row finished with 9.5 sacks. The defensive end recorded three games with double-digit tackles, and recorded his best game against Stillman (11 tackles, seven for loss and four sacks, two forced fumbles and recoveries).

McCutcheon was the lone first team representative from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), as the conference was represented by four total selections (the other two were Central State representatives).

Tuskegee (10-3 in 2015) reports for camp next week and will begin fall workouts next Thursday. They open the season on the road September 3 against Clark Atlanta, in a game that will be carried by the American Sports Network as part of the NCAA Division II package.
