Hot, Humid, Daily Thunder
HEAT ADVISORY: Temperatures are well into the 90s and heat index values will be well over 100°, and some heat index values will be as high as 109° at times. For that reason, a Heat Advisory continues for much of the area through 9PM this evening, as dangerous heat levels are expected. This afternoon, clouds will be on the increase and we are going to see scattered afternoon and evening storms. These will provide the only break from the heat if you find yourself under one. We continue to see an upper-level ridge to the west of the state, and with Alabama on the eastern periphery of this ridge, we are going to be staying hot, and weakness around the ridge that will aid in showers and storm development during the peak heating of the day and this looks to be the pattern through the upcoming weekend.
FINALLY FRIDAY: Very little change in our day to day weather across the state. It will be hot and humid, and we are going to see highs range anywhere from the lower 90s to mid 90s. Heat relief will come from showers and storms that pop-up across Alabama, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. Is it nearly impossible to pinpoint when and where storms develop, but we do know summertime convection will produce gusty winds, intense tropical downpours, and a lot of lightning.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: With the ridge being maintained, you can expect highs to be in the lower and middle 90s both days this weekend. Morning lows should be pretty consistent with values in the lower and middle 70s. Each day there is a threat of scattered showers and storms for both Saturday and Sunday, rain chances over the weekend will range in the 20-40% range.
