Former Autauga Co. School Bookkeeper Faces Forgery, Theft Charges

Kelly Healy Carden mughsotA former Autauga County school bookkeeper is accused of forging checks in order to steal money from the school.

Prattville police Lt. James Harry says that 48-year-old Kelly Healy Carden was arrested Wednesday on two counts of theft of property and one count of forgery following an investigation.

Superintendent Spence Agee says Carden resigned recently from her job as a bookkeeper at Prattville Primary School, where she worked for 10 years.

Carden is accused of writing two checks from the school’s account, one for $2,000 and one for $564.25, to an unspecified individual. Police say Carden endorsed the check and cashed them for personal use.

Carden is also accused of forging the signature of the school’s principal on the $2,000 check.

It’s unclear if she has an attorney.
