Local Restaurant Scene Continues to Change
This week is Restaurant Week across Alabama.
Whether its pizza, barbecue, Japanese or farm fresh ingredients, you can find it in Montgomery.
“We’re seeing a lot of new restaurants come in and some places that have been here for a while but have relocated to places that have more foot traffic,” said Tourism Director Meg Lewis.
One of those places is D’Road Café.
The locally owned Venezuelan restaurant was on Atlanta Highway. But for the past 5 months they have been in downtown.
And its proving to be a good move and closer to many of their clients.
“I want to give people the food that mom and dad, grandmother used to cook. This is why I go all natural. I open up my heart to these people,” said owner Janett Malpartida.
Still people we talked to have their favorites that they would like to see come to the capital city.
David Morneo “really would love a Tim Horton’s. You go anywhere south in the United State ever and there is no Tim Horton’s anywhere.”
“There is one kind of pizza place called Uno Pizza based out of Chicago. They are in the northern states and very, very good,” Willie Matthews.
Curtis Butler says, “I would love to see a Cheddar’s it’s a great meal for a family, great meal…lovely.”
Christyn Fluellen says, “T.G.I. Friday’s, Pappadeux’s, Cheesecake Factory.”
While the city of Montgomery is working on recruiting new business… They encourage you to experience what the city does have.
“Montgomery has so much history to offer. And it’s time that we wake up and say ‘hey tourism! Welcome, we have this for you… we have a variety for you,'” said Malpartida.
