Biscuits’ Bauers powers past BayBears, 9-4

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (biscuitsbaseball.com) – The Biscuits beat the Mobile BayBears again on Saturday night by a score of 9-4 to take the series in just three games. Montgomery has now won seven of their last eight games.

Rays number two prospect Brent Honeywell (2-1) was on the hill for the Biscuits and was terrific after getting some run support in the second inning thanks to a Patrick Leonard solo home run and a Kean Wong sac fly. Honeywell’s lone mistake of the night was serving up a grand slam to Eduardo de Oleo in the fifth in the catcher’s second-ever Double-A at-bat, but would stil come away with his second victory.

The Mobile lead would not last long, however, as a Jake Bauers two-run home run tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. Then in the sixth, Armando Araiza would come through with an RBI-double to hand back the lead to the Biscuits at 5-4. Wong and Granden Goetzman would hit back-to-back RBI-singles in the same inning before a Bauers two-run double finally put the game out of reach.

The Biscuits still trail the Jackson Generals by 1.5 games in the North Division standings but lead the Chattanooga Lookouts by two games in the Wild Card race with 22 games remaining in the season. The Biscuits will try to make it four wins in a row for the sixth time this season on Sunday when Chris Kirsch (6-5) goes head-to-head with Taylor Clarke (5-6) at 5:35 PM.
