A Hot and Dry Week Ahead
A cold front is advancing through northwest Alabama this evening, and it will try to make its way through the river region overnight tonight. Ahead of the front, we have seen scattered thunderstorms fire up in the daytime heating. As we enter the evening hours, these storms should weaken and diminish. Skies will become mostly clear overnight, with lows dropping into the mid 70s.
The “cold” front looks like it will just make it through the area by early tomorrow morning. I’m not expecting much of the cooler air behind the front to make it into the area, but it looks like we may get some drier air moving in by the middle of the week. The front will stall out in southern Alabama and will serve as a trigger point for storms tomorrow and possibly Tuesday. After that, it looks the the southeastern ridge of high pressure will build over the area and really drop our rain chances. Meanwhile, an area of high pressure at the surface to the northeast will help usher in some drier air, dropping our dewpoints into the mid to upper 60s for late Wednesday through early Saturday. This will keep afternoon heat index values lower than than they otherwise would be, but afternoon highs will still be in the mid 90s so it will certainly be a hot week ahead.
