Lee’s walk-off bests Barons 3-2 in 11

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (biscuitsbaseball.com) – The Biscuits walked off for the ninth time this season thanks to Braxton Lee’s RBI-single in the bottom of the 11th, giving Montgomery a 3-2 win over the Birmingham Barons on Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Chase Whitley was on the hill for the Biscuits making his fourth start for the club, and the right-hander would serve up a solo home run to Keenyn Walker on the second pitch of the game to make it 1-0 Barons. Three innings later, Courtney Hawkins followed suit with a solo shot of his own over the left field wall to double the lead. Whitley would go six innings, surrendering just the two runs in a no decision.

The Biscuits, down 2-0 entering the bottom of the sixth, would strike back with a Patrick Leonard two-run double to score Willy Adames and Jake Bauers and tie the game at two. Both teams were held scoreless through the next four innings before Adames was walked in the 11th, and moved to second on an error. And After Granden Goetzman was hit by a pitch, Lee stepped up and delivered the walk-off single on a slap hit just inside the third base line.

The hit was Lee’s fourth of the night, the first four-hit game of the season for the center fielder, and the 22-year-old’s second walk-off of the year having done the same on a bases load walk back on April 13 against the Mississippi Braves. Lee, who will celebrate his birthday on Tuesday, was able to get the party started about an hour-and-a-half beforehand as the Biscuits kept pace with Chattanooga in the Wild Card race, still trailing the Lookouts by a game.

The Biscuits will aim to make it three in a row on Tuesday night when Taylor Guerrieri (12-6) toes the rubber against Blair Walters (4-5) at 7:05 PM.
