There’s a runoff in the mayor’s race in the town of Fort Deposit and one of the candidates is calling on state election officials to monitor the race over concerns about absentee voting.

Incumbent mayor Fletcher Fountain faces a challenge from Barry Robinson in the runoff.

Robinson has raised concerned about the number of absentee ballots that were cast in the August 23rd election. He says the town is too small to have so many people voting absentee.

“Absentee ballots are valuable,” said Fountain. “It give everybody a chance to vote. If you not going to be here and you want to come in and vote then you have a right to do it.”

The runoff election is October 4th.
