Montgomery’s Dragon Boat Festival 2016

Dozens of teams, headed out on the water to partipate in Montgomery’s Dragon Boat Race.

80 teams with 20 paddlers raced their way to the finish line to benefit 2 non-profit organizations, “Bridge Builders Alabama” and “Rebuilding Together Central Alabama.” Since starting 7 years ago. The event has raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars. Participants from Sidney Lanier High School say it’s something they have been preparing for since last year.

“This is a creation of Dr. Williamson. He started dreaming about this. He came down to this event last year and was captured by the idea that this would be a great team building thing within the school,” says Jim Hodgson of Sidney Lanier High School.

Several businesses and organizations in the River Region sponsor the city’s Dragon Boat Race each year.
