Gov. Bentley Declares Hydrocephalus Awareness Month in Alabama

It’s estimated that a million people in the U.S. live with a condition called hydrocephalus, which is an accumulation of fluid on the brain.

On Wednesday, Gov. Robert Bentley signed a proclamation at the state capitol declaring September Hydrocephalus Awareness Month in Alabama. The condition can lead to a series of complications that resemble Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s Disease. It can also affect anyone at any age and there is no cure.

The only treatment is the insertion of shunts into a person’s brain to drain the fluid.
