Alabama News Network is following the delay in Montgomery Public Schools’ employees getting paid. They were supposed to be paid today. But after what is being called a “system glitch”, they are still awaiting payments through direct deposit.

School Superintendent Margaret Allen has sent the following email to school system employees on the delay:

Regarding the electronic distribution of payroll checks:

My sincere apologies for the delay in having deposited funds available for use today.  Human error is responsible for the delay and we accept full responsibility.  The following has been done to ensure that all staff is paid as quickly as possible.

  1. The solution to the identified problem was applied as soon as the error was found.
  2. We are contacting all banks to request that they expedite the processing so that funds will be available no later than September 2, 2016.  The expectation is that most will be available today or tomorrow.
  3. We have asked banks to waive overdraft fees; however if fees are assessed to any employee regarding this error, please send a copy of the documentation to me – via email or pony.

Again, I heartedly regret the major disruption this error has caused for the MPS family and your own.

Margaret Allen
