Warhawk booters open season on the road in Lee Olive Garden Invitational
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (aumathletics.com)— The Auburn Montgomery men’s soccer head coach Wulf Koch will look to build new traditions in the 2016 season, while relying on key returners to help the young group.
Koch returns 10 letter winners from last years team, that finished the year with a 9-8-3 record. Leading the pack is senior Alan Harwell, who was the only player on the team last season to start and play in every game. Also looking to bring back experience are Alexandro Costa, Christian Young, Nick Davis, Stephen Ingram, Grant Dukes and Cedarian Brunelle.
When asked about the returning class, Koch stated, “We are expecting quite a bit of excitement from this team this season. We are working to instill a team mindset on all fronts for both the newcomers and the returners.”
In a massive class of 13 newcomers, the group features nine players from Alabama. The class includes Jacob Bergengren, Chandler Thomason, Christian Thomason, Asher Gipner, Simon Van Rheeden, Tiuri Schieving, Samuel McIntosh, Alexis Arriaga, Brandon Kelly, Caleb Fargarson, Eddie Steers, Braxton Wright and Richard Bjornsby.
Koch mentioned in the interview, “This group is very talented as a whole, and we are trying to teach them our system of play, to find our philosophy as a team and to find ourselves as a group.”
The schedule features quite a few tests, including the first game of the season against Lynn University on September 1. Becoming an official member of the Gulf Coast Conference next year, the team has a few opponents that are current members to test the strength of the program.
Koch and the Warhawks will start the 2016 season on the road against Lynn University on Thursday, September 1, in the Lee Olive Garden Invitational played at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
