Warhawks’ women’s XC’s Goble shines in JSU Opener

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (aumathletics.com) — The Auburn Montgomery women’s cross country team enjoyed a strong showing at the JSU Opener Friday, led by senior HollyAnn Goble earning the individual championship in the White (non-DI) Division.
INDIVIDUAL FINISHES
• Goble finished with a school-record time of 14:44.6, bettering second-place finisher Angel Sullivant of Alabama-Hunstville by nearly 20 seconds. (15:04.3).
• Leah Bassow was the second Warhawk to finish, crossing the line with a time of 15:29. She finished 30th in the field and fifth in the White Division.
• Tanishya Jones ran a personal best of 16:12.5 to finish 67th overall and 24th in the White Division.
• Ansley Story completed the race with a time of 16:40.4 to finish 33rd in the division and 83rd overall.
• Danielle Riggs finished with a time of 16:50.2, finishing 38th in division and 90th overall.
• Katelynn Burns tallied a 17:17.1 to finish 106th. She was the 43rd to finish in the White Division.
• Kelly Dawson and Brooke Schultz finished with times of 17:33 and 17:34.6, respectively. Dawson finished 119th overall, while Schultz was 120th.
• Sara Baugh completed her collegiate debut in 20:16.3, finishing 152nd.

TEAM FINISHES
• Alabama-Huntsville earned the team championship in the White Division with 46 points.
• North Alabama was second, earning 66 points.

  • Birmingham-Southern rounded out the top three with 75 points.
  • The Warhawks collected 101 points, trailing future Gulf South Conference rival Valdosta State by just six points.
    • AUM finished ahead of Division II foes Columbus State, West Georgia, Shorter, Clayton State and Tuskegee.

NOTES
• The meet was the first of the season for the Warhawks.
• The previous 4K school record was set by Goble last season at the MC Season Opener, when she finished with a time of 16:22.

  • Goble finished seventh overall in the entire 160-runner field, trailing only four runners from Auburn, one from Georgia State and one from Florida A&M.
  • Auburn’s Veronica Eder was the top finisher in the field with a time of 13:46.6.

QUOTING THE COACH
“I was really proud of the entire women’s team,” head coach Ryan Thompson said. “We had four girls better the previous school record in the 4K, led by HollyAnn, who won the Division II portion of the meet. I thought they all ran excellent races and set the tone for the season.”

UP NEXT
• The women will return to action Saturday, Sept. 17, by participating in the Falcon Classic, hosted by the University of Montevallo. The meet is slated to begin at 8 a.m.
