Staying Hot and Dry
STANDARD SUNNY SEPTEMBER WEATHER: For today and the rest of the week, expect generally dry weather for much of Alabama with temperatures above average. Many of us will see highs in the lower to mid 90s today with a good supply of sunshine. Average high for Montgomery this time of year is 90°, so temperatures are well above average, but at least humidity levels are not that bad with the drier air mixing down everyday. More of the same for Thursday and Friday with highs in the mid to upper 90s, with mainly sunny conditions. Chance of rain remains very low, so we won’t mention it in the forecast. We do note nights will be clear and nice this week, with many spots in those soothing 60s, with the slightest hint of fall in the air, especially very early in the mornings.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: High school games played under Friday night lights across Alabama will be rain-free with a clear sky; temperatures will fall from the mid 80s at kickoff into the 70s by the final whistle.
Alabama hosts Western Kentucky Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium for the 2016 home opener (2:30p CT kickofF)… the sky will be mostly sunny with 90 degrees at kickoff… dropping back into the mid to upper 80s by the end of the game.
Auburn will host Arkansas State at Jordan Hare Stadium Saturday evening (6:30p CT kickoff)… the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from 87 at kickoff into the upper 70s by the fourth quarter.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Rain chances begin to increase as our moisture levels rise a bit, and the upper high weakens slightly. For Saturday it still looks mainly dry, but Sunday we will introduce the chance of widely scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. We are expecting a mix of sun and clouds both days and highs will be in the lower to mid 90s.
