Gov. Bentley to Sign BP Settlement Bill into Law

Governor Robert Bentley will sign House Bill 36 into law.

House Bill 36, also known as the BP Settlement Bill, provides for the distribution of proceeds from the BP Settlement into the Alabama Trust Fund and the General Fund Rainy Day Account, with additional funds to the Alabama Medicaid Agency, and to certain transportation projects in the State.

The legislation was sponsored by State Representative Steve Clouse (R-Dale & Houston County).  Proceeds from the BP Settlement will be distributed as outlined below:

General Fund Rainy Day Account – $161,565,874

Alabama Trust Fund – $238,434,126

Alabama Medicaid Agency – $120,000,000

$15,000,000 – FY 2017

$105,000,000 – FY 2018

Southwest Alabama Transportation Projects – $120,000,000

The bill signing ceremony is scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m. in the Old House Chamber at the State Capitol.
