ADECA Director to Speak at Pike Road Town Council Meeting
Director Jim Byard Jr. of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs will speak at Monday’s meeting of the Pike Road Town Council to celebrate the recent completion of a neighborhood revitalization project funded with the help of an ADECA grant.
Pike Road received a $450,000 Community Development Block Grant in late 2014 to rehabilitate 25 houses in the Freeport Estates neighborhood. Located off of Vaughn Road, the neighborhood is one of the older areas of Pike Road with a majority of homeowners living on limited incomes and many being older or disabled. Common repairs included roofing, siding and insulation, replacing rotten exterior wood, replacing inefficient air conditioning systems and ductwork and upgrading old, drafty doors and windows with energy efficient models.
The project not only improved the appearance of the houses but also helped lower monthly utility bills for residents.
Pike Road Mayor Gordon Stone will show a video about the project produced by ADECA staff followed by remarks by Byard about the partnership to complete the project.
