Staying Hot and Mainly Dry

Not much change in the forecast through Friday; if anything the new model runs are a little drier, but we will still mention widely isolated, mainly afternoon and evening showers and storms today through Friday with partly sunny days and afternoon highs in the lower to mid-90s. Again, this is pretty standard late summer weather in Alabama.

WEEKEND WEATHER: The coverage of scattered showers and storms should be a little higher Saturday and Sunday as the upper ridge weakens a bit, and a surface front approaches from the north. I certainly wouldn’t call it a “rainy weekend”, but a few passing showers and storms are a pretty good possibility. The sun will be out at times, and highs should be in the 80s both days.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: A few storms are possible Friday evening during the first half of the high school games across Alabama; a lightning delay or two is not out of the question. Temperatures will fall from the 80s into the upper 70s.

Auburn will host Texas A&M Saturday evening at Jordan-Hare Stadium (6:30p CT kickoff)… a shower or thunderstorm will be possible during the game with a mostly cloudy sky. Temperatures will fall from near 84 degrees at kickoff, into the upper 70s by the final whistle.

Alabama travels to Oxford to play Ole Miss Saturday (2:30p CT kickoff). The sky will be mostly cloudy, and a passing shower or storm is likely during the game. Temperatures will hover in the mid 80s.

NEXT WEEK: Drier air should slip into Alabama early in the week, meaning the best chance of scattered showers and storms should over the southern portions of the state Monday through Wednesday. Highs will be mostly in the lower 90s.
