Auburn Begins Search for New University President

gogueAuburn University President Jay Gogue has announced plans to retire.

Gouge made the announcement Friday morning during a board of trustees meeting.

“Susie and I have had a blast at Auburn the past 10 years,” Gogue said. “We’re not going anywhere, but we decided it’s time to step down as president next year and begin the next phase of our lives.”

He did not give a timeframe for his retirement.

Gouge told the university’s trustees that they should begin discussions on a search to begin for his replacement. Gogue began his term as president in 2007.

Before coming to Auburn, he served as president of New Mexico State University, president of the University of Houston and chancellor of the University of Houston System.

He is a Georgia native and a graduate of Auburn.
