Wetumpka Closer to Downtown Revitalization
Plans are moving forward with Wetumpka's revitalization project.
Wetumpka was one of four communities throughout the state chosen by Main Street Alabama to get help with the renovations.
Last night city leaders held a planning meeting.
They discussed downtown streetscapes, lighting, and signage along Highway 231.
The city has been able to put 1.2 million dollars in grants towards the project. And now they need help from residents and business owners.
“There will be thoughtful ideas about financial incentives to stimulate further both public and private sector investment. Of course, what we hope to see is the private sector investing as the public is investing in streetscapes through building rehabilitations, through doing start ups and things that of nature,” said Community Design Solutions president Randy Wilson.
Mayor Jerry Willis says construction will begin on the streetscape as early as next month.
