Lacey grabs 2nd SIAC POTW, Pettway earns special teams recognition
ATLANTA (goldentigersports.com) — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) named their weekly football awards Monday morning, and the 12th-ranked Tuskegee University earned two awards for their week four performance against Lane College.
Senior quarterback Kevin Lacey and redshirt freshman Ladarell Pettway earned Offensive and Special Teams awards this week following a 38-7 victory over previously unbeaten Lane.
Lacey,a 6’6 senior from Wetumpka (Ala.), earned his second award of the year after he contributed to three touchdowns (two in the air and one rushing). He completed 16-of-24 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns (29 yards to Desmond Reece and 54 yards to Pettway). Lacey also had a 10-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to give the Golden Tigers a 14-0 lead. He finished with 279 yards of offense, including 61 yards rushing. Lacey averaged 10.2 yards per carry on Saturday for Tuskegee.
Meanwhile, Pettway finished with 166 all-purpose yards on Saturday, including 102 yards in punt returns. The redshirt freshman from Spanish Fort, Ala., returned one punt 64 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter and averaged 25.5 yards per return on the day. He also caught a 54-yard touchdown pass.
The awards were the fourth and fifth of the year for the Golden Tigers, who have been awarded by the SIAC each week this season.
The Golden Tigers return to action this Saturday at Cleve L. Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium against an undefeated UNC-Pembroke. The game kicks off at 1 pm and can be seen on the Tuskegee Digital Network.
