Finally Feeling Like Fall

OH SO NICE: The main push of cool air has arrived and sticks around through the upcoming weekend. Highs drop into the lower 80s today and Friday could see highs only in the upper 70s for some locations, even though we are going to be dealing with an abundance of sunshine. Coolest morning still looks to be Friday with lower 50s likely. Many North Alabama communities will dip well into the 40s for the first time this fall season.

TROPICAL STORM MATTHEW: At 500 AM AST, the center of Tropical Storm Matthew was located near latitude 14.0 North, longitude 64.7 West. Matthew is moving toward the west near 16 mph, and a general westward motion is expected with some decrease in forward speed during the next couple of days. On the forecast track, the center of Matthew is forecast to pass to the north of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao on Friday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Matthew is forecast to become a hurricane Thursday night. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 185 miles primarily to the north and east of the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1002 mb (29.59 inches). This storm doesn’t appear to be a threat to the Gulf of Mexico, but we’ll keep our eyes on it if there is any change in the forecast.

FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL FORECAST: Looking fantastic for Friday night’s high school games; a clear sky with temperatures falling through the 60s during the games.

WONDERFUL WEEKEND WEATHER: The amazingly awesome autumn weather continues for both Saturday and Sunday, with sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. The high Saturday will be in the mid 80s, followed by mid to upper 80s Sunday. Morning lows hold in the cool 50s.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL FORECAST: Alabama will host Kentucky Saturday evening at Bryant-Denny Stadium (6:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from 73 at kickoff, into the mid 60s by the fourth quarter.

Auburn hosts Louisiana-Monroe Saturday at Jordan Hare Stadium (2:30p CT kickoff)… expect a sunny sky with a kickoff temperature of 76 degrees…falling into the upper 60s by the final whistle.

NEXT WEEK: As we roll into the month of October, the weather in Alabama just doesn’t change that much. We look to stay dry through much of next week and temperatures will moderate some as we should see highs back into the upper 80s and lower 90s, while overnight lows will be in the lower 60s. Unfortunately very little to no rain is expected for much of next week. Keep in mind, October is normally our driest month of the year, so the drought conditions in place are not likely to improve anytime soon.

Have a terrific Thursday!!!
Ryan
