Golden Tigers’ Thompson grabs SIAC POTW defensive honor
ATLANTA (goldentigersports.com) — Tuskegee University junior linebacker Osband Thompson was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against 21st-ranked UNC Pembroke, announced by the league office on Monday.
Thompson, who won his second conference award of the season, finished Saturday with 13 tackles. He had five solo stops and eight assisted tackles in the victory. He also finished the day with a tackle for loss, and recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter that led to a Golden Tiger touchdown – the second in 19 seconds and triggered a 21-point comeback.
Tuskegee (5-0, 1-0 SIAC) returns to action Saturday afternoon in the Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic, kicking off at 2 pm (est) at AJ McClung Memorial Stadium. The game can be seen on ASPiRE TV and heard on the Tuskegee Digital Network, with the pregame show beginning at 12:45 pm.
