Gov. Robert Bentley will speak at the Wednesday memorial service in Anniston honoring corrections officer Kenneth Bettis.

Bettis’ name is being added to the Alabama Law Enforcement Memorial wall in Anniston.

Bettis died Sept. 16 after succumbing to injuries from a Sept. 1 stabbing at William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore.

He was 44. Bettis had worked as an officer at Holman since 2009. The prison system said Bettis was a military veteran and had served on active duty in Iraq with the Alabama Army National Guard. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Holman prison has been the site of multiple outbreaks of violence.
