What do voters think about the presidential debates?

debateThe first presidential debate between candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton didn’t sway a lot of voters. Many were left wondering more about the demeanors of the two candidates more so that the issues. Are these presidential debates something voters even want to see?

Some voters think it’s the best way to learn about what certain candidates stand for, but others aren’t so sure it’s enlightening.

“In general, I think debates are helpful,” said voter Mandeville Wakefield. “Especially for people that are on the fence. Just because it gives them a better insight into how they compare in terms of debating, because that’s something they’ll have to do both domestically and internationally.”

“I feel like at formal debates and how they’re supposed to work, they can be extremely helpful and wonderful,” said voter David Fulton. “But when you have politicians interrupting each other all the time, it does detract from the overall… Benefit of it, I’d say.”

“I feel like it’s a good way to tell where the politicians stand,” said Jonathan Trotter. “Because nothing’s better than actually hearing them say it. And you can actually get like, a feel of what they really mean. You know a lot of stuff is brought to the light when they’re put on the spot.”

Regardless of how voters feel, the nation’s eyes are on the two candidates as they come together to debate again.

“You may be supporting Trump or Hillary, but if you don’t know anything until they say it, you don’t know,” Trotter said.

The second debate was held in St. Loius, Missouri at Washington University. The third, and final, debate will be held at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, Nevada on October on Wednesday October 19.
