Fantastic Fall Weather

TERRIFIC TUESDAY: This truly is my favorite time of year with simply delightful weather ongoing. Plenty of sunshine, warm afternoons, and cool, crisp mornings. That is what we are seeing outside today as it will be sunny and temperatures this afternoon will be in the low 80s. We will have winds out of the east at 5-10 MPH, and with humidity levels dropping into the 20% range during the late afternoon hours, it only raises the dangers for fires.

DRY STANDARD OCTOBER WEATHER: Once again, October is statistically our driest month of the year in Alabama, and this October will only confirm that as there is no threat of substantial rainfall the next eight days. The very dry air in place across the state heats up and cools off more effectively and that is why we are going to see a wide diurnal temperature range. For the most part, temperatures will continue to be somewhat above average for this time of year. Highs the next few days will range from the upper 70s to lower 80s, but then begin to moderate towards the mid and upper 80s by the second half of the week. Lows will respond the same way with upper 40s and lower 50s through Wednesday, followed by mid and upper 50s to end the work week.

TROPICAL STORM NICOLE: At 500 AM AST, the center of Tropical Storm Nicole was located near latitude 27.1 North, longitude 65.9 West. Nicole is moving toward the north-northwest near 5 mph. This general motion should continue today. A turn toward the north and an increase in forward speed is expected on Wednesday. Maximum sustained winds remain near 60 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Nicole is expected to become a hurricane later tonight or Wednesday. The estimated minimum central pressure is 992 mb (29.30 inches).

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The forecast will remain dry and temperatures will remain mild and several degrees above average with highs in the mid 80s, with lows in the upper 50s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Clear for the high school games Friday night with temperatures falling from the low 70s at kickoff into the mid 60s by the fourth quarter.

Alabama will play at Tennessee in Knoxville Saturday afternoon (2:30p CT kickoff)… expect a partly sunny sky with a few widely scattered showers possible. About 78 at kickoff, falling to near 70 by the final whistle.

Auburn has the week off.

RAIN?: Some rain is beginning to show up in the long range model runs by the middle part of next week as a potent cold front moves across the country and then another round of rain and storms possible the weekend of the October 22nd/23rd. Will it happen, still too early to tell, but at least the models are showing it, which it providing some hope to break this long dry spell.
