Battling the Backlash Over Not Supporting Trump
There has been some controversy over Republicans denouncing their support for Donald Trump in light of his lewd comments in the leaked video from 2005 last week.
93.1 radio talk show host Greg Budell says a lot of his callers are upset over Congresswoman Martha Roby.
She said last week she was not voting for Donlad Trump and hoped he would step aside. Although, she did not say she would vote for Hillary either. Governor Robert Bentley also withdrew his support.
There is a facebook page to write-in Becky Gerritson’s name on the ballot, who lost to Roby in the primary.
While Budell does not condone Trump’s comments in the video, he says no one is perfect.
“You could pick on Hillary for any number of things, but I have not seen one democrat anywhere say ‘I can’t support her because she enabled Bill,’ just as one example… Trump is running for president not the papacy,
” said Budell.
Roby’s communication director, Todd Stacy, released this statement to Alabama News Network in response:
“Some might not want to admit it, but Trump is going down in flames and taking our historic opportunity to win the White House with him…. Some have tried to paint her decision as a way of supporting Clinton, but that’s bogus. It is precisely because she wants to defeat Clinton that she believes Trump to step aside.”
