Selma Community Working to Reduce Gang Activity

Community leaders in Selma are working to try and put a stop to a rise of gang activity in the area.

Gang expert Tony Avendorph conducted gang training sessions with some of the faculty, staff and students at Selma City Schools.

Avendorph warned students to steer clear of gangs because membership usually leads to jail, the hospital or the cemetery. He told faculty and staff how to recognize some of the signs and language associated with gangs.

School officials say the training is part of the continuing effort to reduce gang activity in the community.

“At R-B Hudson Middle School our number one priority is the safety of all students and faculty and staff, said Hudson Principal LaShonda Moorer. “Knowing what’s going on in the community can help you be proactive in the schools.”
