One person is dead and two people are behind bars after a weekend shooting in Selma.

Police say 36 year old Carlous Seals of Selma and his 19 year old stepson Kennedy Lewis are both charged with capital murder in the death of 23 year old Travaris Williams of Selma.

Lt. Tory Neely says Williams was shot and killed Saturday night on the corner of Old Montgomery Highway and Highway 80 East.

“One of them shot from a vehicle which constitutes a charge of capital murder and the other one assisted,” said Neely. “He approached the victim after he was down on the ground and both of them approached him and the stepson shot the victim while he was down on the ground.”

Neely says the shooting is believed to have been in retaliation for an alleged assault by Williams against a female family member of the suspects.

Both suspects are being held in the Dallas County Jail without bond.

Williams’ death is the city’s 12th murder of the year.
