Golden Tigers stay 5th in AFCA polling

WACO, Texas (goldentigersports.com) —  After last week saw upsets throughout the top 25, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) released the week seven poll this week with the top five remaining unchanged which includes the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers remaining fifth in the poll.

Tuskegee (6-0) picked up six more votes to get to 619 this week after a bye week, and finds themselves behind the top four teams in the country in Northwest Missouri State – who has held the top spot all season, Grand Valley State, Shepherd and Midwestern State.

Following Tuskegee in the rankings this week are the same five teams in Sioux Falls at sixth, Harding (who moved ahead of California this week), California (Pa.), Texas A&M-Commerce and Super Region 2 opponent North Alabama.

The Golden Tigers are one of five teams from the region ranked in this week’s poll, and are the highest ranked of any team from the region. Other teams from the region include North Alabama (10th), Valdosta State (16th), Florida Tech (19th) and UNC Pembroke (20th). Three other teams from the region this week are receiving votes, and they include Newberry (26th – 48 votes), Wingate (30th – nine votes) and West Alabama (34th – two votes).

The first region rankings will come out following this weekend’s contests.

Tuskegee returns to the field Saturday afternoon against Kentucky State, with kickoff set for 1 pm inside Cleve L. Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium. Pregame festivities will begin at 12:30 pm with Senior Day recognition. The game can be seen on the Tuskegee Digital Network, with pregame beginning at 12:45 pm.
