Hornets place 3rd in Gulf Shores Invitational
GULF SHORES, Ala. (bamastatesports.com) – The Alabama State men’s golf team fared better in the final round of action than they did on the previous day, but wound up with a third place finish at the Gulf Shores Collegiate Invitational in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The Hornets shot a 311-322-315 for a three-round total of 948.
Alcorn State (319-309-311-939) secured first place after shooting five strokes better than Savannah State (311-322-311-944).
Alabama State was neck-and-neck with Savannah State through the first two rounds, but was four strokes off their pace on day three.
Among individuals, freshman Quincy Stith led the Hornets with a 14-over-par 73-80-77-230 to close out tied for fourth place.
Charles Griffin Jr. fired a 75-83-82-240 to place tied for 11th.
Florida A&M (320-324-313-957) placed fourth followed by Texas Southern (339-321-300-960) in fifth, Prairie View A&M (344-334-327-1005) in sixth while Alabama A&M did not finish.
ASU will go on a break from competition before traveling to Beaumont, Calif. to compete in the Taylormade / Adidas Winter Intercollegiate from January 22-24, 2017.
