Hornets tied for 2nd at Gulf Shores Invitational
GULF SHORES, Ala. (bamastatesports.com) – The Alabama State men’s golf team had a co-share of the lead after day one of action at the Gulf Shores Collegiate Invitational, but slipped one spot to finish tied for second at the conclusion of play on Monday.
The Hornets shot a 311-322 for a two-round total of 633.
Alabama State shot identical round scores with Savannah State as each team came within five strokes of invitational winner Alcorn State (319-309-628).
Among individuals, Quincy Stith was the best finisher for the Hornets as he closed with a 9-over-par 73-80-153 to place tied for third.
Charles Griffin Jr. fired a 75-83-158 to close out tied for sixth place while Kirabo Reed (80-81-161) ended up in 12th and Alex Roxas shot an 84-78-162 to place 14th.
Florida A&M (320-324-644) finished in fourth place followed by Texas Southern (339-321-660) in fifth, Prairie View A&M (344-334-678) in sixth and Alabama A&M did not finish.
ASU will go on a break from competition before traveling to Beaumont, Calif. to compete in the Taylormade / Adidas Winter Intercollegiate from January 22-24, 2017.
