Record Warmth Ahead of Late Week Cold Front
An upper-level ridge traversing the Southeast is the main feature impacting our weather the next several days. Now through Thursday, expect days that will be mainly and very warm with highs into the lower 90s, which would be record warmth. Nights will be mainly clear, calm, and very mild for October standards as 60s are expected.
BIG CHANGES BY THE END OF THE WEEK: This includes our best rain chance in quite a while, along with much cooler weather, all thanks to a welcomed cold front swinging through the state. Thursday will be a another warm day as upper 80s and perhaps lower 90s are expected; expect increasing clouds and a good chance of badly needed rain Thursday night and that continues for Friday as the front pushes through the state. Severe weather is not expected, and at this time, any rain is better than no rain. We are expecting less than 1/2 inch of rain, which is enough to settle the dust, but definitely not a drought buster. Friday will be much cooler with a high only in the mid 70s.
FEELING LIKE FALL AGAIN: Saturday looks cool and dry for Alabama with highs in the lower 70s and a very nice northwest breeze. With the cooler and drier air spilling south, look for a clearing sky. Then on Sunday, after a chilly start with lows in the 40s, the day will feature a sunny sky with a high in the mid 70s.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: For high school games Friday night, the weather will be cool with a chance of lingering light rain; temperatures will be in the 50s. You will need a jacket for sure.
Alabama will host Texas A&M Saturday afternoon at Bryant-Denny Stadium (2:30p CT kickoff)… the sky will be partly to mostly sunny with temperatures moving in the mid to upper 60s during the game.
Auburn hosts Arkansas at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday evening (5:00p CT kickoff)… expect a clearing sky with temperatures falling from 68 degrees at kickoff, into the upper 50s by the fourth quarter.
RACE WEEKEND AT TALLADEGA: Friday will be the problem with with a cloudy sky and periods of rain; the day will be much cooler with a high in the 60s. The sky becomes partly sunny Saturday, and Sunday should feature a good supply of sunshine for the Alabama 500. The high Saturday will be near 68 degrees, followed by mid 70s Sunday.
