Tuskegee third in first region poll

INDIANAPOLIS (goldentigersports.com) —  The first NCAA Division II regional rankings were released Monday afternoon, and the 17th-ranked Tuskegee University Golden Tigers find themselves in third in the initial Super Region 2 poll.

Tuskegee (6-1) trails only North Alabama (5-1) and Valdosta State (6-1) in the initial rankings. Behind the Golden Tigers are UNC Pembroke, Newberry, Wingate, West Alabama, West Georgia, Florida Tech and North Greenville.

The Golden Tigers have two games remaining on their schedule beginning with Central State this weekend and Miles on November 5. Meanwhile the two teams ahead of Tuskegee, North Alabama (Delta State, West Florida and Mississippi College) and Valdosta State (Florida Tech, West Alabama and Shorter) each have three games remaining on their schedule.

Region games that could impact the standings over the final three weeks include #2 Valdosta State at #9 Florida Tech (October 29), #6 Wingate at #10 North Greenville (October 29), Lenoir-Rhyne at #5 Newberry (October 29), #2 Valdosta State at #7 West Alabama (November 5), #9 Florida Tech at #8 West Georgia (November 5), and #6 Wingate at #5 Newberry (November 12).

The top seven teams from each region qualify for the NCAA DIvision II playoffs, with the top seed receiving a bye in the opening round. The remaining six teams will all play contests on the opening day of the playoffs, with the second, third and fourth seeded teams hosting games. The final pairings will be released on November 13.

Tuskegee returns to action this weekend as they hit the road for the first two consecutive road games to close the regular season, facing Central State (Ohio) on Saturday afternoon. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1 pm (est) and can be heard on the Tuskegee Digital Network, with the pregame show beginning at 12:45 pm (est).
