State Officials Pushing “Yes” Vote for Amendment Two
Before you head to the polls in two weeks, there is an amendment regarding state parks on the ballot you may not know about.
City and State officials met in Alex City Tuesday to get the word out.
They want you to vote ‘yes’ to Amendment 2 on the ballot November 8th.
They say each year there are more and more funds taken away from state parks.
After the removal of 15 million dollars in funding over the past few years to go to other state agencies, five state parks had to close this past year.
They say a ‘yes’ vote would allow the funding for the amenities within the state
parks to continue and, in turn, help the state’s economy.
“There is a ripple effect with our communities that are adjacent to our parks. There is less business in those communities and consequently there is a negative economic impact when the businesses are disrupted in the parks or the parks have to close because of these budget transfers,” said Director of State Parks, Greg Line.
Some have argued Amendment 2 would allow state park privatization. But officials tell us that is a misconception. They say there is no wording in the amendment about privatizing. And the funds will go strictly to the amenities of the parks, not the parks themselves.
