Swift Drug Company Celebrates 100 Years in Business

A Selma retailer prepares to celebrate its centennial anniversary in business serving the people of Selma and Dallas County.

Swift Drug Company turns 100 years old tomorrow. Three generations of the Swift family have operated the company since it opened back in 1916.

Current owner Buddy Swift credits the store has been able to last by paying attention to detail and treating people right.

“They always tell me not to sweat the small stuff but I think you do have to sweat the small stuff,” said Swift.

“We’ve had loyal customers that have traded with us for generations. We’re on out 4th generation of some customers now.”

The Alabama Retail Association has honored Swift Drug Company as an “Alabama Centennial Retailer”.
