More features are being added to Selma’s riverfront park this fall.

City leaders broke ground on a new playground Thursday morning.

Construction of the new Selma Butterfly Park by the Riverfront is set to get underway in just over a month.

Mayor George Evans says the project will include a play space for children and exercise equipment for people to use to stay fit.

“Little bit by little bit we’re putting a big puzzle together by piece by piece its happening, and I’m proud of this one because at the end of the day, it’ll be here a long time and its going to get bigger and better as time goes on,” said Evans.

The park’s name plays on the city’s designation as the Butterfly Capital of Alabama.
