ADOC Launches New Training Program for Correctional Officers
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
The Alabama Department of Corrections has launched a new training program that officials say will help in the effort to transform the state prison system.
Twenty-nine corrections officers were hand-picked to participate in the first-ever ADOC Sergeant Academy.
Deputy Commissioner Matthew Brand says the goal of the program is to create effective leaders.
He says the program provides officers with two weeks of professional development training in the areas of leadership, team-building and communication.
“Commissioner Dunn has made it clear we’re transforming this department,” said Brand.
“We’re going forward with that and to do that we need these kind of leaders, these transformational leaders that can go out there and execute that at the tactical level in our institutions.”
Brand says the department plans to offer the training program about four times a year.
