Franklin Field Airport Renovations Complete
Renovations at Franklin Field Airport in Bullock County are complete. Officials celebrated by inviting county officials and the community to the facility Friday for an open-house.
The facility’s recent renovations include a new terminal and t-hangers. Officials have also been working with the Federal Aviation Administration to extend the runway to support jet aircraft in the future. Funding for the airport’s renovations is 1 million dollars. 90 percent is funded by federal grants. 5 percent is funded by the state and 5 percent is locally funded. Officials hope more people in surrounding areas will utililize the facility.
“East Montgomery seems to be moving closer to Union Springs every year and this gives those folks that live in east Montgomery, those that may have aircraft or might be interested in aviation another airport that’s within 35 miles of Montgomery,” says Sean Gallagher.
Renovations at Franklin Field started nearly 3 years ago.
