Golden Tigers slip notch in latest DII regional poll

INDIANAPOLIS (goldentigersports.com) — The second NCAA Division II regional rankings were released Monday afternoon, and the 14th-ranked Tuskegee University Golden Tigers slipped one spot to fourth in the latest rankings.

Tuskegee (7-1) trails North Alabama (6-1), UNC Pembroke (8-1) and Newberry (8-1). Behind the Golden Tigers are West Alabama, Florida Tech and Valdosta State each with two losses. Rounding out the top 10 are West Georgia and North Greenville each with three losses, and Wingate (7-2) who lost this weekend.

The Golden Tigers have one game remaining on their schedule against Miles this weekend. Meanwhile the three teams ahead of Tuskegee, North Alabama (West Florida and Mississippi College), and Newberry (Limestone and Wingate) each have two games remaining on their schedule. UNC Pembroke has one game remaining, facing Concord on November 12.

Region games that could impact the standings over the final three weeks include #7 Valdosta State at #5 West Alabama (November 5), #6 Florida Tech at #8 West Georgia (November 5), and #10 Wingate at #3 Newberry (November 12).

The top seven teams from each region qualify for the NCAA DIvision II playoffs, with the top seed receiving a bye in the opening round. The remaining six teams will all play contests on the opening day of the playoffs, with the second, third and fourth seeded teams hosting games. The final pairings will be released on November 13.

Tuskegee returns to action this weekend as they hit the road facing Miles College Saturday evening. The game is scheduled to kick off at 5 pm (cst) and can be heard on the Tuskegee Digital Network, with the pregame show beginning at 4:30 pm (cst).
