Hornets’ defense staves off Tigers, beating JSU 14-7

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (bamastatesports.com) — The Alabama State football team’s defense came up large with a stingy effort to hold Jackson State to just 294 total yards of offense on their way to a 14-7 victory at ASU Stadium on Saturday.

Kourtney Berry led the unit with nine tackles, Darron Johnson added eight tackles and Ronnie Scott came up with a critical pass break up on a 4th and 5 in the red zone to cause a JSU turnover on downs.

Alex Anderson had the winning touchdown on a 15-yard scamper with 9:01 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Palmer Graham caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Jujuan Young-Battle to pull the Hornets even with the Tigers after a David Albert PAT with 4:42 left in the third quarter.
