Domestic Violence Suspect Dead at Selma Police Headquarters
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
A Selma man is dead after a fight with a police officer at the city jail in Selma ends in gunfire.
Chief John Brock says a domestic violence suspect attacked a processing clerk and a police officer with a box cutter while being booked in the city jail.
Brock says during the struggle with the officer, the suspect got his hands on the officer’s gun and several shots were fired.
He says the officer was able to escape the area and the suspect retreated farther into the jail.
“When the incident happened up there we took all civilian employees outside for their safety just to make sure because he was still back in the cells,” said Brock.
“We didn’t know if he still had the weapon. So, we wanted to make sure if there was anything else going on none of the civilian employees would be injured or harmed.”
Brock says the suspect’s name has not been released by authorities.
His body has been sent to the department of forensics for an autopsy.
