AUM women drop season opener to Lynn, 80-71
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (aumathletics.com) —— Senior Kaylan Withrow led all scorers with 17 points, but in the end, the Fighting Knights of Lynn University ended up victorious with a final tally of 80-71.
NOTES
- The Warhawks dropped their first NCAA Division II contest, moving to 0-1 on the season. Lynn begins the season 1-0.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Of her 17 points, 15 came by the way of the three-ball for Withrow, finishing 5-9 from behind the arc along with three assists.
- Sophomore Anastasia Evans contributed 16 points to the Warhawks cause to go along with three boards.
- Junior Danielle Gaines-Jordan was a force down low, adding nine points and four rebounds.
- Chandler Sutton contributed four points, two rebounds and three assists off the bench.
- Nadia Stewart was able to notch eight points to go along with two assista and three rebounds.
- Shaunt’e Tucker led the Fighting Knights in scoring, finishing with 15 points.
- Janay Williams and Marta Oledzka each had double-doubles for Lynn.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a high scoring first quarter, which included three made three pointers for Withrow, the teams finished knotted at 22.
- A late second quarter rally that included a three pointer by Withrow and a layup by Chandler Sutton with 0:36 remaining gave the Warhawks a three-point advantage going into halftime.
- A hot start to the third quarter gave AUM as much as six-point lead. However, Lynn was able to rally back and go up by as much as seven in the quarter. AUM did not quit however, as a pair of treys by Gaines-Jordan and Evans closed the gap to just one to end the period.
- The Warhawks were able to take a lead over the Fighting Knights with 9:00 remaining the game but the Fighting Knights were able to pull by as much as ten. When it was all said and done, Lynn defeated Auburn Montgomery with a final tally of 80-71.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Warhawks finished 28-of-72 from the floor, including 9-of-23 from behind the three-point line.
- Lynn converted 36-of-75 shots from the field, and shot just 3-17 from behind the arc.
- AUM committed 16 turnovers, but only led to 11 points. The Fighting Knights committed 19 turnovers, leading to 21 Warhawk points.
- The Warhawks were outrebounded 53-34, and had only seven second chance points.
- AUM converted 6-8 free throws, while Lynn finished just 5-16 from the charity stripe.
