Lady Hornet bowlers’ shaky start to Sonic Boom Invitational
JACKSON, Miss. (bamastatesports.com) – The Alabama State University women’s bowling team finished the opening day of the Sonic Boom Invitational hosted by Jackson State in fifth place.
The Lady Hornets had a rough start as they finished the day with a total pin count of 4,138 in their second tournament of the season.
Although the numbers say one thing, the pin count total is what counts.
Tulane (5-0) leads all teams with a total pin count of 4,577. The University of Alabama – Birmingham is second with 4,524, Jackson State is third with 4,428, and in fourth is Louisiana Tech with 4,301.
“We got off to a slow start today, we didn’t really execute as well as we should have or could have” said coach Andrew Chatmon.
“We will make some adjustments in our equipment and the way we will attack the lanes and tomorrow will be a better day.”
They started out losing a close one to #18 ranked Tulane 950 to 914, but rebounded to beat Grambling in the second match 782 to 535.
The Lady Hornets then won again, defeating 2016 SWAC Champions Jackson State 900 to 837.
The final match saw the Lady Hornets fall to La Tech 880 to 750.
The Hornets will return to the lanes on Saturday as the action gets underway at 9:40 a.m. with five traditional team matches.
