From the West Alabama Newsroom–
The first woman elected to a seat on the Dallas County Commission is sworn into office Tuesday in Selma.
Commissioner Valerie Price Reubin of Minter took the oath of office in front of dozens of friends and family members.
“It feel like I’m in a dream but I know I got to wake up out of this dream because now I got to get to work, said she said.
Reubin said she plans to focus on providing services for senior citizens in the district and activities for the youth.
Probate Judge Kim Ballard said Reubin is the first woman ever elected to a seat on the county commission.
“Now there’s been other women commissioners but their husbands’ died while in office and they were appointed,” said Ballard. “She’s the first elected.”
The Dallas County Commission meets every 2nd and 4th Monday at 4 pm at the Courthouse Annex.
