Big Changes for Weekend, Future Forecaster Jalen Harris
FINE, FALL FRIDAY: Another chilly start with 40s for most of us, under a sky that will be full of sunshine most of the day, temperatures will warm nicely, reaching the upper 70s to the low 80s during the afternoon. For the evening, clouds will start to increase in the northwestern parts of the area, and move across the rest of the area as the overnight hours progress ahead of a cold front.
FRONT OVERNIGHT: The cold front will push a band of showers into our state tomorrow night. The rain should enter Northwest Alabama sometime before midnight, then the showers will push on through during the early hours Saturday. Unfortunately, with limited moisture and the main dynamic support well to the north, many places, won’t get a drop. The showers should be out of the state by 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
CHILLY ALABAMA WEEKEND WEATHER: Much colder air invades Alabama following the front. The sky becomes sunny Saturday, but the day will be windy and very cool with a high only in the lower 60s. A northwest wind of 10-20 mph, with higher gust, will make it feel colder. We will be very close to freezing early Sunday, then during the day Sunday the sky will be sunny with a high in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Then as the winds relax Sunday night, under a clear sky, this is when we are expecting to experience our coldest night. Many South/Central Alabama communities will see a low in the 29-34 degree range, effectively ending the 2016 growing season.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the high school football playoff games tonight, rain is possible over the northwest corner of the state, otherwise clouds will increase with temperatures in the 60s.
Alabama will host Chattanooga Saturday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium (6:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly fair with temperatures falling into the lower 40s. Take the jackets!
Auburn hosts Alabama A&M Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium (6:30p CT kickoff)… mostly fair with temperatures falling from the mid 50s at kickoff, and into the mid 40s by the fourth quarter. Also, take the jackets!
THANKSGIVING WEEK: The week starts off cold, but then temperatures are going to moderate through the week. It will be dry Monday and Tuesday, but our next opportunity for rain will come right before Thanksgiving. The global models continue to advertise a system that will impact Alabama late Wednesday and Wednesday night with a chance of showers; no severe weather, and probably no thunder. Latest guidance suggests about a quarter of an inch of rain with this feature. Again, no drought buster, but anything we can get will be very beneficial. Thanksgiving day still looks dry and sunny with highs near the 70° mark.
