Campbellsville outpaces 22nd-ranked Faulkner 67-60

PULASKI, Tenn. (faulknereagles.com) – Eleventh-ranked Campbellsville (5-2) overcame an early first half deficit and stiff-armed No. 22 Faulkner (2-3) for the final six minutes of play to secure the 67-60 victory here on Day 2 of the Southern States Athletic Conference/Mid-South Conference Challenge this afternoon.

Today’s contest proved eerily similar to yesterday’s bout against No. 2 Georgetown with Faulkner controlling the tempo until late in the opening half. The Eagles exploded to an 8-0 start and led by as many as 11 points before the Tigers finally caught up near the five-minute mark.

Campbellsville entered the break up 30-27.

Faulkner climbed out of an eight-point deficit early in the second half and battled its way into a tie with just under six minutes to play. The Tigers connected for nine unanswered points while chewing through three minutes of clock, however, to keep the Eagles’ upset bid out of reach.

Campbellsville capitalized on double-digit scoring from four different shooters in the contest.

Logan Jozwiak led all scorers with 19 points for Faulkner and added four rebounds and a pair of assists.

Marquis Grays had 10 points and matched Jozwiak in boards and assists.

Jose Jimenez offered up nine points and seven rebounds while Matt Maddox scored seven and rebounded seven more.

The Eagles will close out play in the Challenge tomorrow when they face off against No. 19 Pikeville at 11 a.m.
