Breaking: Grand Jury Indicts MPD Officer Aaron Smith in fatal shooting of Greg Gunn

Aaron Cody Smith

Montgomery Police Officer Aaron C. Smith has been indicted for murder in the fatal shooting death of 58-year-old Greg Gunn.

Smith was arrested after he shot and killed Gunn, a resident of the Mobile Heights community in Montgomery.

Smith said he feared for his life.

It happened in the early hours of February 25, 2016 as Gunn was walking through the neighborhood.

Six days after the shooting, the state’s district attorney charged Officer Smith with murder. The State Bureau of Investigation took over the case and handed its findings over the district attorney’s office.

The grand jury indictment means the case will go to trail and a jury will decide if Smith is guilty or innocent.
