Montgomery Church Celebrates Adoption Awareness Month

church35.jpgNovember is Adoption Awareness Month, and a local church wanted to take the time to thank the families who have opened their hearts to children.

Saint James Methodist Church took time before the normal Sunday service to pray over the families who have adopted, who are currently going through the adoption process, and for those children who haven’t been adopted yet.

Montgomery County District Judge Jimmy Pool spoke as well. Pool and his wife adopted a girl from Russia thirteen years ago. Their daughter Ellie is now fourteen.

He and other members of the congregation want everyone to know that adoption may seem daunting, but they say it’s a rewarding way to build a family.

Pool says, “Well, it’s just another way to complete your family. We could not have children so we decided that we would adopt. And it’s been the most wonderful journey that we’ve ever had and we’re loving it.”

K.C. and J.W. Godwin are taking a trip to China in three weeks to adopt their new son Paxton.  He will join the Godwin’s four other children, three biological and one adopted.

The Godwins say, “All I can say is that, you know if your heart is in the right place and you have faith in God, and you know that this is what you’re called to do, don’t let anyone or anything stop you. Christ adopted us into his family, who are we to not go out and do the same?”
