Update on the Severe Weather Threat Wednesday

We are watching a line of strong storms making a slow southeastward progression this morning. The River Region has been placed under a slight risk for severe weather by the Storm Prediction Center. The line of storms will impact our area from west to east. The first storms along this line will begin impacting the area around 8 a.m. However, there may be some storms developing out ahead of the main line, impacting us a little earlier.

The main severe weather threat from storms this morning will be strong winds in excess of 58 mph. The hail and tornado risk will be low, but isolated tornadoes and hail of one inch diameter or greater cannot be totally ruled out. We could also see a few areas of localized flash flooding.

The main line of storms should clear the River Region by the early afternoon. A cold front will push through the area behind the storms. This will result in much cooler temperatures this evening into the overnight hours. Much cooler weather can be expected for the end of the week, with high temperatures only in the lower 60s. We will only stay dry for a few days. There’s another good chance for rain and a few thunderstorms by the second half of the weekend.
